Europe and North America
Initially only growing in the gorges of the northern Balkan Island now also in Western and Central Europe as well as all over North America. Preferably used as trees in European parks and avenues. Typical shade tree in Bavarian beer gardens. Very rarely comes in burl form.
No great economic significance. Only used as special wood for turning and carving. Not used for veneers. Burls hardly occur and thus are only used for single furniture pieces or inlays.
